The Camp Wonder mascot is a duck. I thought it was cute, very kid oriented. One morning I was asked to help put on display over one hundred stuffed toy ducks that a mother had hand made for all the campers.

Before the children were each given a duck, the story concerning its origin was told. A camper had told his mother that he wished he was a duck. The mother asked why? The boy said “If I was a duck, I would be covered in feathers, then no one would see my skin.”

Do we judge others by how they look or what they wear?

1 Samuel 16:7 …The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Note: Camp Wonder in Livermore is sponsored by the Children’s Skin Disease Foundation. The one week camp is for children aged 7-16 years old with serious and fatal skin diseases. They have skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, epidermolysis bullosa, pemphigus, ichthyosis, alopecia, and vitiligo. When you first see these campers, you know they have a skin condition, they look different. Many people are turned off by the children’s appearance, which may lead them to look down on the children and stay away from them.
