Chi Hy giving testimony at World Missions Ingathering

On Friday, April 18, 2008, Salvationists from around the Bay Area gathered at the AAYBC to celebrate the World Missions Offering and gifts. Major Trish Froderberg gave an overview about the Golden State Division's missions focus. The AAYBC Worship Team lead worship and Brandon Toy sang a special number. The Corps’ Hospitality Team prepared wonderful refreshments. Chi Hy also shared about the blessings and needs of her six-month missions assignment in Hong Kong. The following are excerpts from her testimony about her ministry in Hong Kong.

"My first mission trip to Hong Kong was a big stepping stone in my walk with God. God was teaching me to be bold and to step out of my comfort zone. God really put me to the test and stretched me. During the trip, I shared my testimony during a public open air meeting, read scripture in Chinese during Sunday service, performed in sign language, and was the group leader at Kam Tin. I really had to trust God to give me strength because of my lack of confidence about sharing the Gospel. The support of my teammates and their prayers definitely helped me persevere through many tough times."

"I still remember my little Hung who was only six years old. He likes to do things his way and it can only be done his way. He often threw temper tantrums and ran away form the group, but it was his smile and laughter I remember the most. I spent time with him, taught him how to play games, and shared Christ’s love with him. He started to smile more and even cheered his teammates on during games. At the end of Vacation Bible School, he decided to accept Christ as his personal Savior."

"At another fellowship, fights, disruptions, and tantrums would break out. But the worship songs, the games, the message, and the prayers reached each child in the Small Group Home. At every fellowship, there was a connection to Jesus. One day a second grader commented, 'We can’t burn incense because we believe in Jesus.' She understood the idea of not worshiping idols and only worshiping the one true God. In another incident, a fight broke out during the fellowship. While everyone was busy calming down the fight, one of the usual disruptive kids was cleaning up the mess from the fight. He showed the humble characteristics of a servant like Jesus. The other staff was amazed to see such a change in him since the fellowship began."
